Mr. Westwood has discovered that Richard F. Nugent died on February 28, 1966 at Phu-Bai, Vietnam during “Operation New York.” The 19 year old Marine was serving his second tour of duty in Vietnam. He attended Westwood High School before enlisting in the corps. PFC Nugent is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myer, Va., with full military honors.

  1. Sorry for the loss of PfC Nugent. I was on one of the artillary pieces firing support during Operation New York. I only hope that he was not KIA from a ‘short round’. 46 years ago none of us ever thought that we would be haunted by what we saw and did, but we are.
